Heyyyy guys! So, I'm in Rome until late August, and as it so happens when I come here the best intentions to write fall victim to the overwhelming desire to take the things in rather than crank the things out. I've tried to write, but then I'm all "gelato!" and "I wonder what St. Peter's looks like today?" and "clouds!" and so the page remains blank or half-finished. It's a bit painful for the type-A me who feels like this is letting something down, but it's also the best thing in the world for the type-A me, because when I take time out to fill up on the inside with clouds and gelato and domes the size of football fields, I have the strength to move forward and do things that would otherwise feel impossible.
There are a few pieces in the works: finishing the Cross-Addiction series, writing about how important men are to this site and my work (because so many of you men have asked me if this place is for you, too - and yes, it so is), two Booklists (one on my favorite spirit books and one on my favorite all-time books), and one piece on why I keep coming back to Rome. They will be up within the next month(ish).
I have, however, been doing a fair share of talking things. Laura and I have been delivering a podcast each week (find them here), I recorded an interview with Olivia Pennelle, Mark Goodson, and Daniel Maurer on their soon-to-be-released program We Three (yet to be released), I'll be part of this Fall's Recovery 2.0 conference with Tommy Rosen (recording next week, stay tuned for details - the conference begins September 14), and I recorded an interview with the fabulous Nicole Antoinette on the sixth season of her show, Real Talk Radio. I love love love this interview, because I get to talk about things I don't normally discuss (like my bottom and my recovery), and Nicole and I get into some really great topics like labels, toolkit building, what keeps people from looking at problem drinking or getting started in sobriety, coming out sober, friendships in sobriety, and a whole bunch of other meaty stuff.
Also, a big heads up for the women readers - I'm so excited to announce I'll be part of the upcoming first annual She Recovers Symposium, to be held in NYC May 5th - 7th of 2017. This three-day event (that will for sure sell out) includes a bunch of exciting offerings - speakers include Glennon Melton, Elena Brower, Marianne Williamson, Gabby Bernstein, and Elizabeth Vargas. There will be dinners and lunches and yoga and spoken word and basically every sober woman on the internet. I will be there as part of the blogger panel (along with my sisters Annie Grace, Laura McKowen, Kelly Fitzgerald, and Laura Silverman), and it's going to basically be one long three-day hug. This is a serious historical event, and I really really really hope to see you there so we can love on each other in real life and talk about how fucking fabulous sobriety is. Tickets are $399 for the whole weekend (not including airfare or hotel), and there are still a few early-bird spots left going for $379. You can learn more and register here.
More to come soon, and all the love from here.
